About my work

My creative process involves a transformation. A disconnection followed by reunion. Breaking apart, then rebuilding.

I distil my subject down to a collection of shapes, then reanimate with shadow, colour and light. For me this is the emotional journey of life. It reflects my experience of the world.

My figurative pieces start as a mass of dissecting lines. I deconstruct the subject, creating what appears to be a topographical maze.

Colour and tone weave the disparate shapes back together completing the metamorphosis from chaotic map to clear journied path. A broken image becomes whole again.

Portraiture is my current focus. I’m absorbed by how a superficial expression can convey one sentiment while masking a hidden emotion.

I want the viewer to see more than first impressions. Notice a slight widening of the eye or a subtle turn of the lip. It can change the expression from stern to vulnerable, pensive to amused.

Creating is my form of meditation. I become totally immersed in the process, and as a result am deeply connected to each piece I create.

Figurative to fully abstracted, my aim is to elicit a similar response in you. Asking you to expand the narrative, I hope you too will find meditative peace in my work.
