About Art by Amber
I'm Amber. I'm an artist, art teacher and art therapist.
I work in various creative mediums, swapping between them depending on how I'm feeling and the image I want to create. I love the delicate nature of watercolour, the tactile application of pastels and the deliciousness of buttering thick paints across a canvas.
My work includes portraits, landscapes, florals, wildlife, urban and gesture sketching, as well as abstract, conceptual art and collage. I also enjoy writing, photography and sculpture.
I'm currently focussing on portraiture, as discussed in my artist statement on the homepage.
Please contact me if you're interested in buying original artwork, prints or commission a piece.

My journey in art
I've always been creative and enjoyed a successful career in advertising and marketing for many years. Following several big life events I realised I needed to change direction. I qualified as an Art Therapist and started building on my existing art skills, teaching myself new techniques and using art therapy approaches to benefit from frustrations and challenges.
The process has taught me a lot about myself. Now with two kids of my own, I witness their joy in creative expression and their struggles with artistic challenges. How we handle such emotions reflects our coping mechanisms in everyday life. The benefit of using creativity as a developmental tool is clear.
I now share my work and my learnings, using art as therapy and teaching adults and children with the goal of building confidence as much as artistic skill and enjoyment.

Originally from the UK, I now live in Far North Queensland, Australia, with my husband, kids and little black dog.
After 20 years working in creative industries, I now paint and teach art full-time. I believe creativity is part of us all, to be unlocked, explored and enjoyed. The process is as important as the end result, and benefiting from a creative outlet is not based on artistic talent.
